I bet there are very cool things in web 2.0, but as an IT professional, it troubles my brain when i see some of this stuff, becuase i dont have the skills to develop it and that would be super cool.
THe jobs are all LAMP jobs, so I need those skills to further my career development. Which is cool and all, but going back to college isn't necessarily what I want, so its time to start reading and getting in the trenches to decide what I want.

21 audio book
Whiel i was able to find the audiobook for grim fairytales, I only believe it would be useful in lulling someone to sleep.
This is an exciting career opportunity, and Much i would be intereseted in also reading books for the computadora.
I used the gutenberg one, but im not concerned about the apple / ipod thing, just becasue if you have a mac, put parallels on it. And ipods are "only" > 60% of the market.
The library could audio-ify everythign everywhere and then listen to the cacophany of the listening room. lol
elsewheres, you could use it as another media source to chill out and let those who can't / dont want to read do stuff.

bloglines is not necessary for me. Ido the following -- open ten tabs all at once with my favorite pages , then reload / reopen when i want to check them. I dont necessarily want to see each new article. The act of browsing is what I crave i think.

#19. YouTube (week 11)
youtubing is the best way to learn a new boss fight in warcraft. Also, it is a good way to see how people violate copyright. Last but not least a way to spread the good word of jesus. Also it can be used as a publishing tool for content that would not normally go widespread, which is awesome.
notably recently in youtube, I have looked and not found a planet earth clip i wanted, and have seen some trashorchestra videos. I also have seen some rather hilarious clips of various genres which were entertaining.

This is the special part, because ALL of a general collection can be ILL'd or downloaded or taken out of storage. I think the BOORA guy said it how future libraries will be hindered by large collections, not helped.
stephens -- ill take a macbook pro.Librarian 2.0 controls technolust im so about this it is ultra necessary. We need to take a cold hard look at what the needs are of library users. Then look at what we are providing and what we can provide. I took a class recently that talked about implementing new features in this light "what is the business need for this service?" or opposite but more important "what is the business drawback if we dont do it?" If there is no google search on library.ucsc.edu, then will no one come to our site???
Oh jeez -- real questions which can help us move forward , very interesting. ( what im all about )

online chatting is old hat. AV is where its at. VOIP is used in lots of first person shooters and in MMORPGS.
Whenever I call tech support at dell or somesuch and they need to talk to somebody else, they try and IM them first, which is nice.
Same here, using it more and more for tiered support, or quick contacts with central ITS.
Pretty nice. My uncle works on live office Now that is some serious online sharing shit. had an interaction with it recently and it was amazing. Although, I believe it is also very expensive.

DUNE #11?

In cruzcat it only says Dune - fiction
Where in librarythings has many tags, including the importance of the different ones. I feel like it is a very effective way of doing things until you need something that is not heavily used. Compare like this: wikipedia has articles on lots of stuff, but super obscure things it has nothing. Just like librarythings, will have 99.9 % of stuff, but cruzcat will have some stuff that it doesn't. although i bet librarythings has lots of stuff cruzcat doesn't.
This is fun for library stuff. MORE READING.

Its been awhile, but im back. and the bookmarking site deli cio us is a great site for web 2.0.
It will allow people to migrate from a single computer to a webbased desktop in re to bookmarks and networking.
I am all about this because it will allow a more streamlined situation where people can use multiple computers as opposed to being locked down on their individual machines.
I am not going to use it as of now, since I sit at one box already. but for all the people 15-25 woohoo, tehy will take my job away from me. lol.

Second Life
It seems like SL is a place for people to hang out and do stuff.
mostly for entertainment and socially but also for meeting likeminded professionals and doing library type stuff.
The videos and articles though....
I believe the articles should be more substantive or more academic, maybe using library online resources, like I did a search and found an article from the wilson web archive about it. Which seems more legitimate coming from an academic journal. my 2 cents.
the videos are all techno and stuff, which while nice to listen to for some, might not have a place in a brick and mortar library, and I would like to see some dryer content in vid's regarding virtual libraries.

I have previously avoided all social networking via the web. Besides a MMORPG. This is sad that I must finally create accounts, but also interesting to see how it transpires.

I have succeeded in adding the anandtech feed to my bloglines account, as well as a custom google search. Both were super easy and smooth.
A subscription magazine i like, CPU magazine, did not work since you have to be a subscriber for it to work.
I have a feeling much pay content would not work, so it would be interesting to find out about how all this relates with journals and stuff from the academic library. ( However I will leave that for someone else)

This is a lesson in using technology to make life easier. As opposed to the overhead of an RSS i would rather periodically look through a series of websites, though this is less efficient, I still get to look at the actual site and check it out.
I see a better application of RSS feeds in news scrolling across the library site, or updating fast changing items on websites.
I have tried using them in the past and haven't like them. Maybe this will be another chance to check them out.

Week 2, lesson 4 part one section3
Hey Folks,
This is lesson 4. Lets see what we find out.
I uploaded my character from World of Warcraft. He is a 70 Belf Mage.
This was very easy to do, and flickr made it smooth. Except for the fact that they are authenticated via yahoo ( probably my 5th or 6th yahoo account ) it was fine.

Lesson three results
I wanted to separate this out from the data collection part of lesson three, because it was lost at the bottom of the other post.
sphere.com was the best, for the related content, it showed me when I had narrowed my results to a acceptable level. Zero related results. and it gave me a good blog to read. Blogging feels like the wikipedia of news articles. as opposed to organized sites. dynamism that Reuters can't reproduce but also with the associated chaff.
No, I dont think i am going to change my net reading habits. Unless I start looking for a job again, these are helpful tools for academic job postings.
